INTRODUCTION
NEED & SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Organization is one of the inevitable parts of business & management. Organization study is to familiarize with the industry and attain an experience of the functioning of the organization. It provides a chance to interact with the different department and authorities in the organization. The academic curriculum provides only an outline view about the theoretical aspects of management and other related functions implemented in a company. This organization study was conducted as part of the second semester MBA curriculum in one of the major footwear industries, Lunar Rubbers Private Limited situated in Thodupuzha, Kerala.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The academic curriculum provides only about the theoretical aspects of management and other related functions implemented in a company. But this organisation study help to understand the practical applicability of theories studied in the class room. This helps to narrow the gap between the classroom and real business situation. It also provides an Industrial exposure. The study was mainly conducted to understand the functions, processes and procedures of different departments of the company and to find out and analyse the time management and internal communication in an organisation.
SCHEME OF REPORTING
This report is presented in five chapters. The first chapter introduces the study by highlighting the need for the study, the study objectives, scope of the study, methodology and scheme of reporting. The second chapter on industry profile and organizational profile discuss about the footwear industry and Lunar Rubbers Pvt. Ltd. The third chapter describes about the soft skill components. It includes the internal communication and time management. The fourth chapter analyzes the SWOT of the company. The last chapter reports the findings, suggestions and conclusion of the study.

FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY
The footwear sector is a diverse industry which covers a wide variety of materials (textile, plastics, rubber and leather) and products from different types of men's, women's and children's footwear to more specialized products like snowboard boots and protective footwear. This diversity of end products corresponds to a multitude of industrial processes, enterprises and market structures.
INDIAN SCENARIO
The Footwear Industry is a significant segment of the Leather Industry in India. India ranks second among the footwear producing countries next to China. The industry is labour intensive and is concentrated in the small and cottage industry sectors. While leather shoes and uppers are concentrated in large scale units, the sandals and Chappals are produced in the household and cottage sector. India produces more of gents’ footwear while the world’s major production is in ladies footwear. In the case of Chappals and sandals, use of non-leather material is prevalent in the domestic market.
The major production centers India are Chennai, Ranipet, and Ambur in Tamil Nadu, Mumbai in Maharashtra, Kanpur in U.P, Jalandhar in Punjab, Agra and Delhi. The Indian footwear industry is provided with institutional infrastructure support through premier institutions like Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai, Footwear Design & Development Institute, Noida, National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, etc in the areas of technological development, design and product development and human resource development.
There are nearly 4000 units engaged in manufacturing footwear in India. The industry is dominated by small scale units with the total production of 55%. The total turnover of the footwear industry including leather and non-leather footwear is estimated at Rs.8500-9500 crore. India's share in global leather footwear imports is around 1.4% Major Competitors in the export market for leather footwear are China (14%), Spain (6%) and Italy (21%).

LUNAR'S ALWAYS A STRIDE AHEAD
Lunar is situated in the largest town in Idukki district, Thodupuzha. Lunar Rubbers was initially registered as a small scale industry in 1982. The unit was later converted into a private limited company in1993 as “The Lunar Rubbers private Limited”. History of the company begins even before, in 1975 when a Hawai manufacturing unit was set up in the Industrial estate at Thodupuzha. This initiative from a young entrepreneurial genius led towards the triumph of a quality foot wear brand, Lunar's. The company is certified with ISO 9001-2000 since the year 2004. Product diversification was a major leap forward by the brand. Lunar's umbrellas were introduced in 2001.The Lunar's umbrella, catering to all segments of the society is now a houses hold name in Kerala. Lunar school bag and school shoes are two proven products enjoying wide demand. Forward integration into leather chapels and shoes, stuck on variants, handmade chapels etc are progressing at hectic speed. The company is well poised to be a National Brand by the year 2012.
