INTRODUCTION
Discriminant analysis is similar to regression analysis. There is a dependence variable, and there are some independence variable used to predict the dependence variable in both techniques. But in dscriminant analysis, the dependence variable is categorical, not metric. It used to classify people or object into two or more groups based on some knowledge of their characteristics. for example, selection of salespeople, or professional working in big corporate based on their income,no.of year of investment could be an application and predictions based on some demographic or psychographic characteristics of the professional.
We can extend the same technique to draw perceptual maps to position it in the space. we also place attribute vector on the same map. The perceptual map is convince to use, to figure out which attributes are a part of which dimension (axes). Arrow representing attributes vector can be drawn using the standard discriminant function which serve as the axes in the plot.
To draw the perceptual maps for positioning application. Each approach has it merits, but the decision finally rest on the researcher’s comfort level with either method.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
