To control the dam discharge through gates, we have adopted close loop feed back system with PLC controllers. The water level in dam is sensed using float type, resistive sensor, the output of which is use as a basic information about water level in dam. This signal is fed to PLC controller, which ultimately drives the driver of the gate controlling motor. The system is programmable and can be interacted with nominally trained operator. The geared motor is used with rope and pulley arrangement to control the vertical position of a gate.
