Description:
Humanity has faced an enormous technological evolution over the last 15 years in the area of Networks and Communications, in parallel with the continuous progress occurring in the computer hardware and software technologies. Communications and Informatics are undoubtedly considered as the fundamental sections for developing systems and managing their critical component, the data, in order to obtain information and consequently knowledge. The main negative impact of modern road transportation systems today is injury and loss of life as a result of road accidents. Accident information system plays as key and integral role in a sustainable transportation development strategy. The accident-detecting unit is fitted with the vehicle. If the vehicle met any accident the detecting unit sends the signal to the emergency response teams for instant response. This system is implemented using GSM network.

Project Description:
The embedded micro controller used here is 89C51 micro controller. Since, this micro controller has in-built peripherals it is called as embedded controller. The 89C51 is an 8-bit CISC micro controller, which is a derivative of 8051 micro controller.Since, reading remote value from anywhere in GSM area is very simple, accident information system using GSM is very preferable solution.
The vehicle is fitted with the sensor to detect the occurrence of accident, microcontroller acting as the CPU and the GSM module to send the information regarding to accident. The emergency response teams’ numbers are already stored in the microcontroller. The sensor is the transducer, which converts environmental parameter into electrical signal. The sensor is able to detect the occurrence of the accident. The microcontroller interfaced with the sensor is programmed to send the information such as occurrence of accident and place of accident to the previously stored numbers.
