INTRODUCTION
Mahi Hydel Power Station
The Mahi Bajaj Sagar project is located in Banswara district of Rajasthan which is, economically, one of the most backward areas in state. This is an interstate project of Rajasthan and Gujarat. This hydel project is planned to generate at two surfaces power houses. The power houses-I is proposed to utilize the combined water release of Rajasthan Irrigation and Gujarat share of water. As the former gets consumed on the way, the later is further envisaged to be utilized for power generation at Power house-II, before releasing it finally in river Anas for utilization in Gujarat.
The site of Mahi Bajaj Sagar is located near Borkhera village about 16 km north east of Banswara town. Its coordinate are latitude 23 ͦ37’40’’ N and longitude 74 ͦ32’45’’ E. The Mahi Power House-I is located just downstream of saddle dam. It is about 9 km of Banswara town. Banswara town is 80 km from Ratlam railway station and 104 km from Dahod railway station.
POWER HOUSE:
GENERAL:
The power house accommodates two vertical types Francis type turbines designed and manufactured by Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., India. Each turbine is designed for direct coupling with 3 Phase, 50 Hz, 25 MW generators, also designed and manufactured by BHEL.
Each turbine is fed by 4.2m dia penstock. The penstock is very short in length as the power house is located just at the feet of the dam.
The Mahi River is flowing in the southern part of Rajasthan near Banswara.
