ABSTRACT
In this project a ZIGBEE communication system was developed in such a way that it will monitor the load of the substation continuously and that information is transferred to the control room. This system is based on a low-cost electronic device that can acquire and pre-process current & voltages and transmit processed key-information related to the load operation conditions. Information about operating parameters of loads can be sent to a central processing unit allowing knowledge of key-information of the load.
In this project work, for the demonstration purpose a small step-down transformer of 12V, 1 amps rating at secondary is considered and small bulbs are connected as a load. In this project we are using current and voltage sensors for measuring load current and voltage respectively. All these parameters are converted into digital value by using ADC. If the parameters of the loads exceed the threshold value or any loss occurred then immediately the relays at the substation get tripped automatically and the location of fault area will be displayed on LCD & PC. This location can be finding using GPS. About all the parameters of load values are continuously transmitted to control section using ZIGBEE communication. With the help of this kind of system, the maintenance staff of the department can have a continuous vigilance over the transformer.
