A wind turbine is a device that converts kinetic energy from the wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used to produce electricity, the device may be called a wind generator or wind charger.1.Horizontal axis turbine2.Vertical axis turbine3.Darrieus turbine
TYPES OF ELECTRICAL LOADS
1. The electrical load may be residential (domestic lights and fans, power required for appliances such as radios, television, water heaters, refrigerators, electric cookers, small motors for pumping water).
2. Commercial (light and fans for commercial establishments, advertisements and electrical appliances used in shops and restaurants etc).
3. Industrial (Large scale industries, small scale industries, medium scale industries).Municipal (street lighting, power required for water supply and drainage purposes),Irrigation loads ,Traction loads.
ADVANTAGES OF WIND POWER:
1. The wind is free.
2. Although wind turbines can be very tall each takes up only a small plot of land.
3. Many people find wind farms an interesting feature of the landscape.
4. Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power grid can use wind turbines to produce their own supply.
5 .Wind power plants are pollution free
6. Wind turbines are available in a range of sizes.
DISADVANTAGES OF WIND POWER:
1. The strength of the wind is not constant .
2 .Many people feel that the countryside should be left untouched.
3. Wind turbines are noisy.
4. Many people see large wind turbines as unsightly structures and not pleasant or interesting to look at.
5. When wind turbines are being manufactured some pollution is produced.
6. Large wind farms are needed to provide entire communities with enough electricity.
