Milk Production is a very important part of the agricultural economy in the State of Punjab. Punjab is one of the smallest States in Indian Union. Dairy Farming is an age-old subsidiary profession in the rural areas of Punjab. Punjab is the second largest milk producing state in India. Singh Badal in 1970. Commissioning of the Plant was done by Punjab Dairy Development Corporation in 1974. Inauguration was done by Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. The capacity of the plant was 1.00 lac. Liter per day, now the milk handling capacity is 4.00 Lac Liter per day. OBJECTIVES 1. To have practically experience thermal component of plant. 2. To execute theoretical knowledge that we learn in recent studies, like Refrigeration and Air conditioning, Boiler and its accessories, Power plant, Heat transfer, etc. 3. To provide economically beneficial electric system for Refrigeration. 4 To increase the efficiency of plant by recovering heat losses in boilers.
PRESENT STATUS/ ACHIEVEMENTS OF
PLANT No. of societies increased from 94 to 802. Milk Procurement has increased from 1,00,200 LPD to 4,00,000 LPD. Highest milk price is being paid to the milk producers as compared to other plants in the states. Products being manufactured by Ludhiana Plant are sold at premium rates through out of the country and in the International Market. Turnover of the plant touched to Rs.283 crore. Milk products like ghee, butter, skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, curd, paneer, milk cake etc are being manufactured by Milk Plant Ludhiana.
