Status and Management of Foliar Diseases of Aonla through Host Resistance
ABSTRACT
Aonla (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) is very important fruit crop of rainfed sub-tropics. The fruit is highly nutritive and richest source of vitamin C having therapeutic and medicinal properties. A number of diseases attack aonla fruits during the different stages of fruit development. Among them, the foliar diseases i.e. anthracnose (Glomerela cingulata), fruit rot (Phoma sp.) and blue mould rot (Penicilium islandicum) are the important diseases which affects pre-mature fruit drop and reduced quality of the fruit. The investigations were carried out at Rainfed Research Sub-Station for Sub-Tropical Fruits, Raya during 2010-11 and 2011-12 to find out the incidence of foliar diseases. The foliar diseases ranged in the tune of 12.0-35.6% (anthracnose), 8.5-23.5% (fruit rot) and 6.5-26.5% (blue mould rot) in different locations of the rainfed Sub-tropics of Jammu and Kashmir. Seven aonla cultivars i.e. Banarasi, Chakiya, Narendra Aonla- 6, Narendra Aonla-7, Narendra Aonla-10, Francis and Local were screened against foliar diseases. Out of them, the cultivar Narendra Aonla -7 showed minimum incidence of anthracnose (17.80%), fruit rot (18.9%) and blue mould rot (8.50%) and categorized as a moderately resistant against these diseases.
