Following Team India's dismal show in the last one year, Team India has slipped to the fifth place in Test rankings. With the current scenario alarming, Team India needs a few changes in order to become successful.
Though it is acceptable that Team India is undergoing a transition after the likes of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman announcing their retirement from the game, guess the team needs a total make over.
What Team India should do to salvage pride? 5 suggestions for BCCI to change Team India's fate Here are the five suggestions, that could change things around
1. Sack Dhoni as Test captain, name Gautam Gambhir his successor Since Gambhir has proved himself as a good captain, having led the Indian team successfully on all 6 occasions in ODIs. Virender Sehwag on the other hand, has also led India in 4 Tests. India has won two matches, lost one to Australia and drew a match against New Zealand. Compared to Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir could be preferred as Test captain. Though many former cricketers feel Virat Kohli is ready for Test captaincy, guess Gambhir is more experienced than Kohli to take over from Dhoni.
2. Sack Duncan Fletcher, instead name former Indian cricketers as coaches (for different departments) Rather than opting for a foreign coach, why can't India rope in former Indian cricketers for the roles. Bishan Singh Bedi to train spinners Venkatesh Prasad as bowling coach Sourav Ganguly as head coach, mentor Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Gundappa Viswanath as batting consultants Robin Singh as fielding coach
3. Selectors should be given freedom to choose the best squad Mohinder Amarnath's revelation has exposed a few things, which clearly suggests that the selectors need to be given ample power to choose what they feel is the best squad, irrespective of influencial players.
4. Different teams for different formats Having a different team for Tests, ODIs and T20s would help Team India and the cricketers to stay focused to their favourite format which doesn't involve juggling with too many formats. Moreover, it also suggests that Ashwin, Kohli, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir will be playing one format that they choose to play and cannot play all the versions of the game
5. Proper preparation ahead of a Tour or series, a must Especially after the Test series against England, Team India would have realized that they cannot take any opponent lightly even when they are playing at home. Series defeats to England and Australia in the last one year suggest that Team India has not been quite serious about preparing ahead of a tour, which could have easily helped India save the series, if not win it than being humiliated.
