Transformation Of Win Isis To Koha-an Open Source Integrated Library Management System
There are many different technologies available today for developing various complex programs and with so many to choose from, it.s great that there are open source technology which are available and it is such a joy to use KOHA is fantastic Open source Technology that enables us to customize it according to our requirement. To look and understand these challenges which we have to face in future, our college provides an opportunity for all its students to gain professional training and actual work environment for the students. This knowledge will help us in our future prospects and skill development. We have prepared this project report with great enthusiasm in the most practical way. During this period, we get the first real world corporate experience on working, in an actual environment with different technical skills which normally cannot be experienced by us in college studies. Apart from this, we get an opportunity to learn the latest technologies, and gain insights into the working of the system. And most of all we observed how team effort is organized and integra

Project Definition
Over the years, the CSIR Laboratories have acquired a large amount of information. It is estimated that CSIR laboratories would have a total of about 20-25 lakh books, journals, monographs, standards, patents in their respective research areas. CSIR laboratories over the years have been building the resources which are interdisciplinary research approach; these available resources need to be utilized by the researchers of other CSIR laboratories engaged in similar research programs. NISCAIR is in process of implementing a system to share the resources available in different laboratories by all CSIR researchers. This can possibly be achieved by having an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of all resources available in CSIR laboratories, i.e. by creating union catalogue.
The system can be built in following two possible ways- (i) Centralized union catalogue (Virtual Union Catalog), (ii) distributed Library (using Z39.50).
1.2 Objective Of Project
The major objectives of comprehensive Data Migration in CSIR Knowledge Gateway are as follows:
To provide CSIR KRCs an Integrated Library Management Solution using open source Software (OSS)
To share information resources among CSIR laboratories by creating CSIR Distributed Library:
Catalogue Sharing
Inter library Loans
Referral Service for Document Supply Service
There are many stable and robust OSS available in the area of Library & Information Science. Though these software are free, their features are comparable with proprietary software. However, the OSS lacks technical support for installation and customization. CSIR is developing expertise in this area to provide technical support to CSIR laboratories and also provide low cost solution outside CSIR. Therefore, CSIR-NISCAIR is in the process of setting up "open source software technology solution cell" (OSSTC)providing low cost software solution for Development & Customizations of Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS), digital Libraries, Network security & administration.
1.3 Scope Of Project
Koha is web-based ILMS, with a SQL database (MySQLpreferred) backend with cataloguing data stored inMARCand accessible viaZ39.50. Theuser interfaceis very configurable and adaptable and has been translated into many languages.Koha has most of the features that would be expected in an ILMS, including:
The data conversion process started with a study of the existing software operations, the volume of the data available, the data format and the availability of import/export features. In our case Libsys 7.0 does not provide import/export feature, so we have to find other options to take output of the data to a
