Tuljapur is a city and a municipal council in Osmanabad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the administrative seat of Tuljapur taluka.
The town is home to a famous temple, Tulja Bhavani Temple, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Bhavani. The town received much importance in past centuries, since the temple enjoys a special association with the Bhonsale clan to which Chhatrapati Shivaji belonged. Goddess Bhavani was the family deity of the Bhonsale clan. The temple-town of Pandharapura, the Dharashiv caves, and the fort of Naldurg all lie within easy reach. As the Goddess Bhavani is the deity of many people from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, they come walking in Dasera Festival to worship Goddess Bhavani.
Geography
Tuljapur is located at 18°00′N 76°05′E18.0°N 76.08°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 648 metres (2125 feet).
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[2] Tuljapur had a population of 31,714. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Tuljapur has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 60%. In Tuljapur, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Education
Tuljapur has more than five school & college like Shree Tuljabhavani collage of Engg,Navoday Govt college , polytechnic and Shri Tuljabhavani Sainiki Vidyalaya is also located here. The school has both Secondary and Higher secondary education facilities. The aim is to inculcate a spirit of patriotism and encourage a career in the Armed Forces of India. S.T.B College of Engineering is also located in the town. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, a deemed university of international repute has started a B.A. in Social Work (with specialsation in Rural development) programmne near Tuljapur.The nearest railway station is Solapur.
Transport
Tuljapur has frequent buses from Solapur which is situated 45 km away. Nearest railway stations are in Solapur (45 km) and Osmanabad (25 km). also many of commercial vehicles are available to Hindu devotees who generally come at Navratri week.
