INTRODUCTION TO VISAKHAPATNAM STEEL PLANT
Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) is the first coastal-based steel plant of India. At VSP, there is emphasis on total automation, seamless integration and efficient up-gradation, which result in wide range of long and structural products to meet stringent demands of the customers, both in India and abroad.
VSP is committed to meet the needs and expectations of customers, to prevent injury and maintain good health of all employees, and to prevent pollution.
VSP works with a vision to be a continuously growing world class economy. It has a mission to attain 16million ton liquid steel capacity through technological up-gradation, operational efficiency and expansion; to produce steel at international standards of cost and quality; and to meet the aspirations of the stakeholders.
It has the main objective to expand the plant capacity to 6.3 Mt by 2011, with a mission to expand further in the subsequent phases as per the corporate plan.
VSP has the core values comprising of commitment, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement, concern for environment, creativity and innovation.
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited is a corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The steel plant is located 26kms south of the Visakhapatnam city. The company has Blast Furnace grade Limestone captive mine for Dolomite at Madharam, a Manganese ore captive mine at Cheepurapalli. It also has a mining lease for river sand of river Champavathi.
VSP is the first Integrated Steel Plant in India to become an ISO-9002 certified company. The certificate covers quality systems of operational, maintenance and service units; purchase systems; training and marketing functions, spreading over regional marketing offices, 20 branch offices and stockyards, located all over the country.
It is the only integrated steel plant in the country to be certified for ISO-9001:2000, ISO-14001:2004, and OHSAS 18001:1999.
