White flies population (Bemesia tabaci Genn.) and its impact on the incidence of tomato yellow mosaic virus
ABSTRACT
Studies on seasonal incidence of whitefly, Bemesia tabaci Gennadius (Hemiptera : Aleyrodidae) and its impact on incidence of tomato yellow mosaic virus on tomato was conducted at the University Research Farm, Division of Entomology, Main Campus Chatha, Jammu during 2010. The peak incidence of whitefly was recorded during 21st standard week on Pusa ruby. The vector population was significantly and positively correlated with temperature (maximum and minimum) and sunshine hours where as relative humidity (maximum and minimum) was significantly but negatively correlated with whitefly population. Rainfall had non significant negative effect on whitefly population. Regression studies showed that influence of all the major weather parameters was 89.00 per cent for Pusa ruby. The studies on the effect of whitefly population on disease incidence and disease intensity revealed that with the increase in whitefly population from 15th standard week (SW) to 26th SW the disease incidence and intensity also increased. The per cent disease intensity and incidence exhibited significant and positive simple correlation coefficients with the whitefly population.
