Our proposed project is the designing of new administrative block in Sree Buddha College of engineering. The project includes its layout, design estimate and overall cost. The Sree Buddha College of engineering is situated at Pattoor, near Mavelikkara – Pandalam road Alappuzha district.
The Project abides by the Kerala municipality Building rules 2011. In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 381, 382, 387, 398, and 406 read with section 565 of the Kerala Municipality Act, 1994 (20 of 1994) and in super session of the Kerala Building Rules, 1984 issued in G.O. According to the Kerala municipality building rules the proposed building is come under group B class. This class is for the educational buildings. Educational building shall include all educational buildings or part thereof exceeding 150 sq. metres floor area, used for school, college, institution, education and or research. Maximum permissible coverage or the percentage floor area of class B buildings is 35. The maximum permissible F A R without any additional fees is 2.50 and the maximum permissible F A R with additional fees is 3.
We planned this building as a three storied building. As per K M B R, access to non residential building up to 300 square meter of carpet area in each floor of a three storied building is 5.00 meter and the off street parking space for higher educational institutions of class B buildings is 200 square meter of carpet area
There are detailed descriptions are available for the provisions for every parts of the building, such as mezzanine floor, Height of room, water closet, Size of bathroom and latrine, Stair cases, Ramps, Corridors, Veranda, passage way, Fire escape staircases, Travel distances to emergency staircases, Exit width etc. Number of occupants per unit exit width of stair way in class B buildings is 25 and in doors are 75.
Occupant load or gross area in square meters per persons in class B buildings is 4.00. Area of air shaft in square meter of a three storied building is 1.08, and minimum width of air shaft is 0.9m. Also there are the provisions for lift, lighting and ventilation, recreation space etc.
The structure design is made with reference with Indian Standard code 456-2000. The design of beams of the proposed building is done based on clause 23, 23.1, 23.2 etc. Design of slab is based on clause 24. Compression members are designed based on clause 25.1, 25.2, 25.3 etc. Clause 33 is used for designing of stair. In addition to this ANNEX C of I S 456:2000 is used for the calculation of deflection and ANNEX D is used for the design considerations of slabs spanning in two directions. ANNEX G is used for the moment calculation and reinforcement calculation.
