The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) (established in its current form: 15 June 1983) is a central armed police force in India. It was created by virtue of a law of the Parliament of India on March 10, 1969 with a force of 2,800. CISF was subsequently converted into an armed force of the Republic of India by another Parliament Act passed on June 15, 1983. Its current active force is 144,418 persons. In April 2017, the government raised the sanctioned force from 145,000 to 180,000 people.
It is directly under the Home Office of the Union and is based in New Delhi. CISF provides security coverage to 300 industrial units, government infrastructure projects, and facilities and facilities located throughout India. Industrial sectors such as nuclear power plants, space facilities, mines, oil fields and refineries, large ports, heavy engineering, iron and steel plants, barriers, fertilization units, airports and hydroelectric and thermal power stations owned and controlled by central public sector companies, and the coin presses producing Indian currency are protected by CISF. Therefore, it covers facilities throughout India on a variety of terrain and weather conditions. Mumbai; Vidhana Sabha, Bangalore; Orissa Mining Co., Bhubaneswar; Telangana Assembly, Hyderabad; Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corp .; HIL Kerala, IB Thermal plant, Odisa; IARI, Delhi; NBRI, Lucknow and Electronics City, Bangalore. The scope of the CISF consultancy includes security consultancy and fire protection consultancy.
CISF is only a unique organization in the paramilitary forces for India, which works for sea lanes, airways and some of the major facilities in India. In CISF there are some reserved battalions that work with the state police to protect the law and the orders. CISF plays an important role in disaster management, for the disaster management course staff is trained from NISA, Hyderabad. Another unique thing that CISF has is a fire wing that helps during fire accidents in industries where CISF is on guard.
