A Project Synopsis On An Intelligent Ambulance

Abstract
In this project, we are overriding existing traffic signal by using intelligent traffic controller. In the present scenario most of our precious time is wasted due to fixed time limit. This can be overcome by using intelligent traffic controller. Due to the wastage of time we loose precious life because delay in reaching the hospital on time. The whole controlling of this project is done by AT89S52 microcontroller. AT89S52 is a 40 pin microcontroller with four ports. The output ports of the microcontroller are connected to the HT640, which happen out to be a encoder integrated circuit (IC) at transmitter section. The encoder IC is connected to a radio frequency (RF) module transmitter. A 16*2 Liquid crystal display (LCD) is also connected to the output port of microcontroller. The signal is can be transmitted through infrared (IR) transreceivers, which are connected to MAX232 and to the input port of microcontroller. At receiver section, the input of the microcontroller is HT648L that is a decoder IC. The encoder IC is used with radio frequency module. When ambulance approaches RF receiver at traffic light post, microcontroller interrupts the red signal and indicate green signal in direction of the ambulance.
Literature Survey
Untill now in our project the power supply and Liquid crystal display (LCD) connection has been done. LCD is a flat panel display, electronic visual display, or video display that uses the light modulating properties of liquid crystals. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly. These are available to display arbitrary images or fixed images which can be displayed or hidden. These are used in a wide range of applications including computer monitors, aircraft cockpit displays. They are common in consumer devices such as video players, gaming devices [8]. The working of the transmitting section as follows- firstly the main power supply line is made using regulator Integrated circuit (IC) that is 7805. A 7805 is a voltage regulator IC. It is a member of 78xx series of fixed linear voltage regulator ICs. The voltage regulator IC maintains the output voltage at a constant value. The xx in 78xx indicates the fixed output voltage it is designed to provide.7805 provides +5v regulated power supply. It has 3 terminals [9]. These devices support an input voltage anywhere from a couple of volts over the intended output voltage. Capacitors of suitable values can be connected at input and output pins depending upon the respective voltage levels. IC performs the function of converting a 12v Direct current (DC) current into 5v DC current. Now this 5v is used at different places for different purposes. The 230 volt ac input is first stepped down at 12v by step down transformer. The output of the transformer is fed to the rectifier circuit, the rectifier is an electrical device that converts Alternating current (AC), which periodically reverses direction to DC, which flows in only 1 direction. The output of the rectifier is fed to the smoothing circuit, which eliminates the ripples from the pulsating DC and pure (DC) to the Rounds per second (RPS) to get a constant output DC voltage. AT89S52 is a low power, high performance, Complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) 8-bit microcontroller with 8k bytes of in-system programmable flash memory.
