Religion
Religion & Sex Education
Is one of the most touchy subjects in today's school systems. Private schools put a heavy emphasis on religion, praise, and clean-cut students. They live by the book. In public schools most parents feel that teachers shouldn’t teach about pre-marital sex or sex education period. Being a home school parent, it’s your decision if & when you want to discuss sex and religion with your child.
Special Needs Children
Homeschooling is the best option for special needs children.
The child receives all the attention.
Who knows your child better than you..
Testing & Graded Evaluation
National Achievement Standardized test
Basic Achievement Skills Inventory (BASI)
Available for grades 3-12
Parents choice to teach SOL curriculum
Comprehensive Test of Basic skills
Teaches math, science, social sciences.
Parents administer the grades
Parents evaluate the child’s skill and knowledge
The grading scale is based on one the parent has chosen
Usually a high school numerical scale is used.
How do I know if my child is promoted?
Provide evidence that the child has received a composite score on a nationally normed achievement test
Evaluations from a superintendent indicating the child is receiving adequate levels of education.
Evaluation letter from a person licensed to teach or has a masters degree or higher.
High school Diploma
Student receives diploma upon completion of courses
The person who assigns diploma must have exercised authority of students career.
Recommended that the student take classes at a local community college or take duel enrollment classes.
The student does walk across the stage with friends at his or her local high school.
Public school or Daycare?
Most students obtain majority of the information at home.
Teachers don’t enforce the homework.
Teachers review the homework, but after that the student is on their own.
Back in the day you could get a job with a high school diploma, but because of the lack of knowledge in high school they have made it where you need a degree to get a good job. So parents would be better off teaching their views and curriculum themselves.
