Aims at eliminating the manufacturing wastes.
The technique was first used by the Ford Motor Company. The technique was subsequently adopted by Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan.
JIT is a set of techniques to improve the return on investment of a business.
Dell computers
Dell is known to build a computer only when it has an order in hand. Instead of keeping a warehouse with monitors ready to ship along with the rest of the computer, Dell has arranged with Sony to ship directly from a plant in Mexico to the customer in a fashion that all components of the computer system arrive at the same time. Production doesn't start until an order has been received.
Kaizen.
Japanese term for change for the better.
Goal includes elimination of waste, just-in-time delivery, standardized work.
People of all levels in an organisation participate in Kaizen.
The TPS are known for their Kaizen.
Eg. Arranging machines in U-shape
Philosophy and application.
“Zen” in Kaizen emphasis the learn by doing aspect of improving production.
Large scale pre-planning is replaced by smaller experiments.
Using the natural forces to make manufacturing job easier.
