Abstracts: Resource managemant systems are packaged (but customisable) software applications, which manage data from various organisational activities and provide a fully integrated solution to major organisational data management problems. They provide for both the core administrative functions, such as integrated modules which can be selected to support warehousing, production, client management ,purchase, quality check, sales. Large legacy Information Systems traditionally have been designed to perform routine paperwork processing, and reporting around specific business activities. Information for executive use in decision-making was a by-product of transaction processing systems. fragmented nature of the management information, which flows from these discrete systems, does not make it immediately useful for strategic decision-making in a competitive environment. In addition, even where these legacy systems have been partially integrated by middle ware to communicate data, they are expensive and complex to maintain and upgrade . ERP systems, underpinned by integrated databases, make information available across the organisation and support ad hoc and exception reports such as are required by executives to allow them to make strategic decisions to provide competitive advantage.
