Abstracts: ABSTRACT Agriculture has been one of the primary occupations of Indian Culture since early civilizations and even today manual interventions in farming are inevitable. In the field of agriculture, use of proper method of irrigation is important because the main reason is the lack of rains & scarcity of land reservoir water. Another very important reason of employing such methods is that, the unplanned use of water leads to a significant amount being wasted. Keeping this in mind the proposed system design deals with the automation of irrigation schemes used. The Automatic Irrigation system will control the irrigation mechanism using soil conductivity (moisture) sensors. The entire setup is solar powered. The sensors will be placed in the field, deep in soil. On measuring the soil conductivity (moisture content), it will generate a signal which will be given to a digital control circuit, which will accordingly generate signals that will control the turning ON or OFF the pump. This mechanism thereby controls the irrigation in the field & reduces water wastage. The system derives power from solar energy through photo-voltaic cells. Hence, in support of Green Energy it also reduces the dependency on erratic commercial power, making it self sustainable.
