The effect of arbuscular mycorrizal fungi on the control of meloidogyne incognita race-1 on withania somnifera
ABSTRACT
Three arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus aggregatum, Glomus mosseae and Gigospora spp. were evaluated for the management of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognta race-1 infecting Withania somnifera under glasshouse conditions. Healthy plants treated with different AM fungi had maximum plant height, root and shoot biomass, root colonization, and spore count compared with control. The result also indicated that the treatment of root-knot diseased plant with AM Fungi increased the growth and biomass of the plant and decreased the M. incognita population in both roots and soil. Nematode population densities were significantly reduced in the presence of AMF. This could be a possible strategy to reduce the negative impact of nematode infection.
