Insect pest incidence as affected by application of various organic and inorganic fertilizers / pesticides in maize
ABSTRACT
Maize was sown during kharif, 2009 and 2010 at DLRSS, Dhiansar imposing all the treatments (various organic and inorganic fertilizers). Insect pest incidence was recorded throughout the maize growing seasons. MOP @ 80 Kg/h followed by Neem cake @ 5 t/h recorded the least stem borer incidence. Higher doses of potash, imparts resistance against stem borer by thickening of the cell cuticle. The incidence was highest in FYM @ 10 t/h. No treatment-wise variation was noticed in case of other pests like blister beetle and hence no conclusions could be made for maize insect pests other than stem borer. Maize was again sown during kharif, 2011 at DLRSS, Dhiansar imposing a combination of best treatments. Stem borer incidence was recorded throughout the maize growing season. MOP @ 80 Kg/h + Neem cake @ 5 t/h recorded the least stem borer incidence. The incidence was highest in control plots.
