Gel formulation of Mupirocin and O, N Carboxymethyl chitosan-Zinc Complex was prepared and evaluated for pH, spreadibility, drug content, rheology, antimicrobial activity, primary skin irritation studies and stability.
Gel formulation of Mupirocin and O, N Carboxymethyl chitosan-Zinc Complex was prepared and evaluated for pH, spreadibility, drug content, rheology, antimicrobial activity, primary skin irritation studies and stability. The developed formulation exhibited better antimicrobial activity than marketed formulation. The formulation has shown no signs of skin irritation and it is stable for 3 month under accelerated stability conditions as per ICH guidelines. Further work suggested before commercialization of the formulation is to optimize the yield of the O,N-Carboxymethyl chitosan-Zinc water soluble complex, develop the analyticlal method for the detection of this complex in the formulation,to conduct in-vivo studies on Infected wound model ( By Methcillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus ), to conduct clinical studies.
