INTRODUCTION
Electrical energy plays a vital role in day-to-day life. Modern life style has further increased its importance, since a faster life means faster transport, faster communication and faster manufacturing processes. All these lead to an increase in energy required for all those modern systems. So scientists were always engaged in researches to find alternative power sources. One of the greatest challenges in all of technology right now is improving energy storage. It’s an enormous challenge on many fronts and on many scales, with examples ranging from utility-scale batteries as big as a trailer down to the button –size cells that keep our quartz wristwatches ticking. And while we know how to make batteries bigger –add more cells –we are up against fundamental limits as we try to scale down rechargeable energy sources into the micro realm and beyond. The developments in the field of Nano technology solve most of the problems now. A new area of energy research, which is producing electrical energy from carbon Nano tubes, is emerged recently by MIT. This paper is based on the researches made by MIT and recent developments in that field.
Energy
Energy has different forms and electrical energy is one among them. This is most reliable, flexible and what not? There is no necessity to elaborate them, because we all are the best users of it. Energy is the basic necessity for the development of a country. Many functions necessary to present- day living grind to halt when the supply of energy stops. It is practically impossible to estimate actual magnitude of the part that energy has played in the building up of present-day civilization. The availability of huge amount of energy in the modern times has resulted in a shorter working day, higher agricultural and industrial production, a healthier and more balanced diet and better transportation facilities. The modern society is so much dependent upon the use of electrical energy that it has become a part and parcel of our life.
Generation
The conversion of energy available in different forms in nature into electrical energy is known as generation of electrical energy. There are different ways to generate electrical energy. You must have heard of a number of alternative ways for producing electrical energy, all are conventional methods even the reactors. I mean the nuclear reactors also a common way of power generation today. All these methods of generation have their merits and demerits.
