ABSTRACT
DEFINITION OF CONCEPT CAR
“Concept cars are an expression of dreams, emotion and inspiration – and a vision of how to progress reality. They allow us to show the world how our designers and engineers are constantly probing the boundaries of their imagination and their creativity.”
In this seminar report, I have presented some of such cars, which may or may not be manufactured in future but this gives a different dimension to the upcoming engineers, That what limit so far their senior have presented.
INTRODUCTION
CONCEPT CARS HISTORY
No single person invented the automobile. In the late 1800s, many inventors in both Europe and the united state were working to build “horseless carriage”, or automobiles. It took years of trial and error to design and build cars that worked well.
Henry Ford
He was the founder of the ford motor company in 1903 in Dearborn, Michigan. In 1909 Henry Ford had created the model ‘T’. This simple, no-nonsense car was a huge hit. But as the years passed, ford made very few changes to the car. For example, most model Ts came in one color-black. By the 1920s, the model T had become boring and outdated.
Alfred P.Sloan
He was the head of the GM’s, taking his company in a different direction. Sloan understood that good cars weren’t enough for the U.S. public anymore. With this idea in mind, GM owned several divisions, or brands, of cars GM‘s Chevrolet division specialized in simple cars that were affordable. On the other hand of the GM brand list was Cadillac. Cadillac was the ultimate luxury vehicles. They featured all the newest ideas and technology. They were also very expensive. . Cadillac was made for rich people who wanted the best and fanciest cars available.
Chrysler’s first concept car
The Chrysler Corporation soon started building its own concept cars. In 1941 the company unveiled the thunderbolt and Newport. Chrysler called the strangely shaped thunderbolt the car of the future. Like the Y-job, it had hidden head-lights and a power convertible roof. But the thunderbolt’s wide, fat body looked even more futuristic than the Y-job. The Newport was a very long and elegant machine. Its most unusual feature was its separate front and back passenger’s compartment.
What is the difference of concept cars to other cars?
The term “concept car” is used on vehicles that divert far off from the traditional car models. Most of them are showcased in motor shows or in commercials to know the people’s reaction toward new, mostly radical, and innovative designs or engine upgrades through a car review.
These cars may have new and radical designs, ranging from gull wing doors, to six wheeled designs. These are not commonly seen on traditional vehicles and may or may not have any degenerative effects on user comfort and utility. Other may be made out of non-traditional, expensive and exotic materials ranging from paper to carbon-fiber alloys. Lastly, most of them will have special abilities that are unique to the car itself. But in today’s concept car terminology, these are cars that use other sources of energy to power up and move the vehicle without the use of gasoline aiming for a cleaner transportation module.
CONCLUSION
Concept cars are idea cars, dream cars, wow cars. Concept cars are a mix of the latest technology and showmanship. They aren’t built for sale to the public. Many don’t even run.
Concept car designs are mostly radical changes from the material used to build them, designs that could improve efficiency, look & appearance and other factors, and the power sources from which it will derive its energy. One car review stated that concept cars will greatly improve the state of the environment if widely used, but the only problem with these types of cars is that they will be very expensive; leading to only millionaires could afford who are only a handful.
A Car review will not be enough to show how much the world need these concept cars to come to life. They will eliminate pollution, using natural resources as energy sources and divert from using harmful fossil fuels and chemicals for energy. Just wish that these cars will roam the streets (which is still a few more decades ahead), before the world is black with pollution.
Thus the concept cars are all about the future. These are a way for designers to try new ideas and new technologies outside the box. These are a way for automakers to show what their car of the future might look like.
