The techniques employed stress stability analysis (VSA) and contingency analysis of line interruption (LOCA). From the VSA and LOCA, the most critical lines in a system during stress conditions are identified. A pre-developed voltage stability index was used as an indicator of the system voltage stability condition. The weak areas formed by the lines are identified as the most critical lines.
Voltage stability has recently become a challenging problem for many electrical systems. Voltage instability is a phenomenon that could occur in the power system because of its stressed condition. The result would be the emergence of voltage collapse leading to a total power outage to the entire system. Research and online monitoring of the stability of the power system have become vital factors for electricity providers. Contingency and classification scrutiny (CS & R) is one of the important components of online voltage stability assessment. The objective of CS & R is to quickly and accurately select a short list of critical contingencies from a large list of potential contingencies and classify them according to their severity. Appropriate preventive control actions can be implemented considering contingencies that may affect the performance of the power system. This article proposes an effective method for the classification of contingencies. This method calculates the voltage stability margin considering the line breaks. The basic methodology implicit in this technique is the investigation of each line of the system by calculating the stability indexes of the line. The point at which the VSI near the unit indicates the maximum connected load possible called the maximum load at the branch point. This technique is tested in the IEEE system and the results show that the contingency range indicates the severity of the voltage stability condition in a power system due to line interruption.
