Ethanol is commercially produced using a wet mill or a dry milling process. Wet grinding consists of separating the grain into its component parts (germ, fiber, protein and starch) prior to fermentation. Plants designed by ICM use the dry milling process, where the whole grain kernel is milled into flour. The starch in the flour is converted to ethanol during the fermentation process, creating carbon dioxide and grain distillers.
