Renaissance Learning and Study Island today announced a joint agreement that will allow educators to use the Renaissance Responder and NEO 2 handsets with Study Island's standards-control product.
The NEO 2 laptops, which are part of the Renaissance Learning hardware line, offer valuable writing and writing practices throughout the curriculum. In addition, NEO 2 allows students to take Accelerated Reader exams, improve computer fluency with MathFacts in Flash software, participate interactively in lessons through the classroom-based response system, and print documents wirelessly. Students can also upload documents in MY Access !, a teaching program that diagnoses and evaluates students' writing ability and Google Docs, Google Doc, Spreadsheet and Presentation application.
As part of the interactive 2Know! the classroom response system, the Renaissance Responders portable player uses bi-directional radio frequency technology to help teachers know instantly whether students understand the key concepts. The system's easy-to-use toolbar allows teachers to set questions in seconds and the included quiz generator automatically tabulates the results in the built-in gradebook, saving teachers time and eliminating paperwork.
Study Island is a leading provider of online, standards-based assessment, instruction, practice, and exam preparation for the K-12 US education market. The rigorous academic content included is fun and engaging. Study Island is fundamentally and statistically based on research and is effective in enhancing student learning and achievement in diverse settings. Each student's reports are available in real-time and in a variety of formats to help teachers measure student progress and identify areas for improvement.
This integration allows a class of students to use Renaissance Responders and NEO 2 laptops to instantly answer Study Island's assessment questions in the classroom. Responses are sent to Study Island immediately where results are recorded, recorded and stored automatically.
"We are very excited to work with Renaissance Learning to expand our support for classroom response systems," said Ray Lowrey, Study Island Technology Director. "The end result of this collaboration will be a fully integrated solution for our mutual customers to enable them to more effectively leverage their investment in the products of both companies."
"The Interoperability of Renaissance Responders and NEO 2 with Study Island further enhances the utility of these 21st century classroom tools," said Steve Schmidt, president and COO of Renaissance Learning. "The integration of these products allows students to experience learning through technology while collecting valuable data to inform the instruction of teachers."
The Study Island update will be available in a beta version in September 2009.
