1. Introduction. We extend our warm welcome to you for your 12 weeks Joint Basic Phase Training at Basic
Training Institute in Sambra. Sambra is a small village situated at a distance of 17 Kms from Belgaum Railway Station and
is connected with Belgaum City by a State Highway. Our representative will receive you at Belgaum Railway Station.
2. Aim. The training at this Institute aims to produce a confident, well-disciplined, self reliant, physically tough and
mentally robust and highly motivated air warrior.
3. Personal Health Requirement. You are advised to take adequate precautions against chicken pox, jaundice,
pneumonia etc. Drinking water, food items may be taken from authorized sources only to avoid falling sick during course.
More than 10 days absence due to sickness may lead to backphasing you to next intake which is scheduled after 3
months.
4. Personal Safety Requirement. During rail travel to Belgaum, take all safety precautions like not accepting
eatables/drinks/tea from co-passengers, secure your baggage with chains and lock, avoid entraining/detraining when the
train is on the move and take care that no spraying by co-passengers to make you incapacitated when you are asleep to
steal your luggage and valuables. Trainees are advised to carry adequate drinking water to prevent jaundice and not to
bring heavy eatables and perishable items other than required during journey. Cash in hand may be limited to Rs. 3000/-
while reporting to he Institute. Trainees are required to open a Bank Account with State Bank of India having corebanking
facility and are to be in possession of ATM card before joining JBPT.
5. Personal Kitting Requirements. You are required to bring personal kit such as Pad locks (Qty-02), athletic
supporter (Qty-2), White handkerchiefs (Qty-06), Shaving pouch (one set), Soap case (Qty-01), black trouser with loop
(Qty-01) and black belt (Qty-01). In addition to these, you are to purchase the following items (approximate cost is
mentioned against each item) on your arrival at AF Station Belgaum: (i) Steel Box (Rs.462/-) (ii) Sqn Colour T-shirt with
405 Logo (Rs. 115/-) (iii) Dictionary (Rs. 73/-) (iv) Vest RNBS with AF emblem (Rs. 50/-) (v) Trainee cap with 405 AF Stn
Logo (Rs. 19/-) (vi) White trouser for Mass PT & Games (Rs. 176/-) (vii) Torch (Rs. 83/-) (viii) Hanger (Qty-06) (Rs.30/-) (ix)
Bucket (Rs. 104/-) (x) Mug (Rs. 9.50/-) (xi) Bag/Satchet (Rs. 135/-).
6. Physical Stamina. Since the duration of training is for only 12 weeks, your training schedule is quite hectic. The
Joint Basic Phase Course is also focused on physical training. If you would keep in touch with running minimum 2-3 Kms
and doing enough sit-ups, pull-ups & push-ups for at least a month continuously before arriving at BTI, you would find it
easier to go through the training syllabus.
7. Daily Routine On working days, the trainees have to adhere meticulously to a daily routine from reveille (0500h)
to lights off (2200h) to ensure all-round discipline and personality development.
8 Medium of Instruction. During the training at BTI, the medium of instruction will be English. Therefore, you are
required to brush up your knowledge in English by taking some extra coaching in the intervening period before your arrival.
A prior exposure to the basics of computers is also welcome.
9. Training Curriculum and Academic Preparation. Your training curriculum will include General Service Training
and Education Training (English and General Service Knowledge) besides Hindi and Basics of Computers. You will be
required to give utmost importance to your academic preparation to pass the Mid Term & Final Test. A Diagnostic Test
(DT) & Trade Allocation Test (TAT) would be conducted during the course for Trade Allocation.
10. Shramdan. During the JBPT, as a part of the training, you are advised to keep the billet (living in area) Dining
hall, training ground and faculty area always clean, to instill civic sense in you and to teach dignity of labour.
11. Guard / Patrolling Duties. You will be detailed to perform guard duties (24 hrs) at various posts designated from
time to time to learn the aspects of security and vigilance.
12. Small Arms Training. Each ab-initio trainee is introduced to small arms and range firing training at the mini
range. All trainees are required to pass the tests that are conducted during the final exam.
13. Poor Academic Performance. If a trainee fails in any subject (GST, GSK or Eng) in Mid Term Test, he is issued
with a warning letter for his failure. If a trainee fails in the same subject again in the Final Test or fails in any subject in the
Final Test and Re-Test (only for first time failures in Final Test), he will be back phased into Junior Intake. Any further
failure in any subject will lead to Cease Training and Discharge after due procedure. Before this, all trainees are given
adequate opportunity to make the grade. Extra coaching is imparted to weak trainees through extra classes after working
hours.
14. Cases of Indiscipline. Indiscipline cases will be dealt severely. Cease Training and Discharge, after due
procedure, may be awarded to trainees who indulge in repeated breaches of discipline despite warning.
15. Cease Training & Voluntary Discharge. If a trainee misses training for more than 10 cumulative working days
for reasons beyond his control such as hospitalization/leave etc, his case is put up before the Station Review Board (SRB)
for back-phasing to junior Intake. The trainee can opt for ‘voluntary discharge’ through proper channel in the following
cases:-
(a) On grounds of improved career prospects.
(b) On grounds of mal-adjustment to Air Force life (Unable to cope with rigours and regimen of service).
© On compassionate grounds (If continued absence of trainee from his family will endanger lives of parents
/dependents if they are seriously ill or cause financial loss etc)
16. Career Enhancement / Better Job Prospect. While undergoing training you may not be permitted to appear in
civil exams for your higher education qualification. However, you may be permitted to appear NDA/CDS exam by taking
leave maximum of ten days, provided you had applied for the same prior to joining Air Force.
17. Secular Ethos. IAF is very secular in its outlook. Trainees should respect all the religious practices and tenets.
Forming of religious/linguistic/regional group is strictly prohibited. Sikh personnel are permitted to have beard and
moustache with proper beard net/hair fixture.
18. No Mid Course Leave. There is no leave for trainees during the 12 weeks training at BTI.
19. Prohibited Items. You are not permitted to use electrical and electronic equipment such as iron, heater,
transistor, tape recorder, TV, VCD, mobile phone etc or bring valuables like gold ornaments. In case any of the prohibited
items are brought along, when reporting at this Station, the same would be confiscated and returned only at the end of the
training. Items like pornographic CDs/literature etc are totally banned and strict action will be taken on defaulters.
20. Taboos. Smoking, chewing tobacco/gutkha, use of any substances like alcohol, drugs etc, use of jeans trouser,
mobile/cell phone, watching CDs/DVDs in Squadrons, all civil and criminal offences including ragging, eve teasing /
disrespect to ladies / committing theft / cheating / forgery / misappropriation / misuse of ATM card of fellow trainees /
lending and borrowing of money / gambling / betting / wilful barrack damage and any kind of violence / affray / unnatural
sexual acts are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN at this Station. Discussion on politics is prohibited. Never discuss service matters
with strangers/outsiders.
21. Receiving Guests. Since the training is fast paced, only in exceptional cases blood relatives are allowed to meet
the trainees during non-training hours. Some guest rooms are available where the relatives can stay for a maximum of two
days. However, this is discouraged to avoid disturbing the mind of the trainees.
22. Facilities Available at BTI. Station Medicare Centre, Military Hospital, Post Office, State Bank of India, Sambra
(Branch code No. 1889), an ICICI and SBI ATM counters, Unit Run Canteen, STD booths Shopping Complex are the
facilities available at this Station. The Postal address of the Air Force Station is BTI C/O 405 Air Force Station Belgaum,

23. Your recruitment is as an Airman and NOT ® NOT as an Officer / Pilot / Navigator. As an Airman you will be
deployed on ground-based jobs as per your allocated trade.
