A significant expansion of the parts spectrum is now available for the production turning systems SpeedLine INDEX C100 and C200 of INDEX-Werke GmbH & Co. KG, Esslingen. Via an integrated workpiece handling with external pallet station, the turning machines are automatically supplied with chuck or shaft parts. These are then specifically stored later as processed workpieces automatically via a swivel/gripper arm on a transport belt or on pallet stations. The automatic handling of pre-machined parts both increases the productivity and facilitates the integration in linked systems.
Also for the fast production turning systems INDEX C100 and C20, the automated material handling for chuck and shaft parts is also a topic in addition to the highly productive rod-machining. For this purpose, the Esslingen-based turning machine specialists are presenting an integrated workpiece handling on a C100 for the AMB. As a standard feature, this is activated via the CNC program, whereby all axes are equipped with NC drive. The pivotal part of the system is a swivel arm that automatically loads and unloads chuck parts (WHU) and shaft parts (WHW).
The WHU handling, as universal handling, is envisaged for chuck and small shaft parts up to 120 mm (C100) or up to a maximum of 150 mm (C200) length. Longer shaft parts with a diameter of up to a maximum of 65 mm (C200) are loaded and unloaded with the WHW variant. A maximum length of 300 mm is possible here for the production turning machine C200. The maximum blank weight for both systems, depending on application and part form, is between 3 and 5 kg.
The hydraulically clamping double-gripper can be swiveled by 360° with continuous adjustment. Depending on the workpiece, the clamping pressure is set individually. The three usage options of the swivel arm for the rods and chuck processing are:

1. The automatic feed of blanks by transport belt or pallet. 2. Automatic receiving of machined workpieces from the counter spindle with subsequent deposition on a conveyor belt or pallet..
3. The withdrawal of the residual bar part from the main spindle during spindle machining and subsequent deposit in the container for residual bar parts.
As these modules are identical, apart from the gripper, a conversion from WHU to WHW is possible at any time. Through the expansion to include automated workpiece handling, not only the productivity but also the spectrum of uses of the SpeedLine production turning machines are substantially increased.
