Abstract:
This project is about making of aluminium utensils by using aluminium ingots from NALCO,Angul. Aluminium is taken as the raw material because the utensils made from this are less in cost, less in weight, gives a descent looks by its silver white colour, more durable and easy to clean in comparison to other competing materials like steel or brass. This has a great demand in lower and middle class people.
2.3 MARKET ANALYSIS:
2.3.1 INTRODUCTION:
Aluminum is one of the most widely used metals and also one of the most frequently found compounds in the earth's crust. It is very easily available and cheap material for use. Due to its so much beneficialism it is known as innocent compound. Generally all kitchen utensils and other utensils are made by using aluminium plates or circles.
2.3.2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The SM Industry brings to market a variety of utensils those are used for storage purpose, cooking, other house hold utensils like dekchi, handa, kadai, gangla, kalasi, sauce pans of various size and types. These are quite cheap and long durable. The kalsi are of various sizes and are easy for using.Aluminium utensils are less in weight and have a resale value.Yet no other competitive utensils has challenged the aluminium utensils in comparison to price, longevity and manufacturing techniques.Aluminium in comparison to other metals like brass and stainless steel is less costly, easy to clean, light in weight, easy to handle.
2.3.3 MANUFACTURING PROCESSES:
The basic raw material uses here are the aluminium ingots which is mainly procured from NALCO,Angul. The ingots are of weighing about 20-22kg in quantity.
These are melted first with the help of melting furnace which is operated by hard coke. After melting, the melted aluminium is poured in to a moulding dice and given a shape of a block of size 12inch*12inch*1inch,which is called as” guli” in local language or slab. Then the slab is annealed in a annealing furnace and then rolled by a hot sheet rolling machine. Then the pieces are cut into different sizes and again are rolled in a cold sheet rolling machine then the final sheets are made. The sheets are cut into different sizes by a “fulla cutting machine” i.e square sheet cutting machine.
Finally they are cut by a circle cutting machine and the shape of circle are given. In spinning lathe machine with the help of different dices, the circles are fitted and the shape of utensils are givenThen the utensils are treated in HF acid and cleaned and are ready for sale. Some of the utensils are hammered and designed manually for a better look.
By following above procedure we produce the utensils and send for sale in market.
2.3.4 APPLICATION OF THE PRODUCT:
The products manufactured are sold in market and taken out profit. As these are basically house hold utensils so are used for various needs in house like cooking, storing food crops, storing water and such purposes. those can basically be used in house works and garden purposes.
2.3.5MARKET POTENTIAL:
It is a consumer product, the competing items are clay, brass and stainless steel utensils. Aluminium utensils are widely accepted because though it is more costly than clay pots but more durable and less costly than the brass and stainless steel utensils. These utensils are also not less durable than brass or stainless steel utensils and have a resale value of the used utensils, so these have good acceptance in market.
The products are manufactured out of pure aluminium ingots and we are taking advices of some experienced persons before starting the enterprise so these products have a new identification in the market.
The products are having 1st 100%purity,no re processing is done and lastly the sizes and shapes of the product are very different from those made in other industries. The design is also done according to the choice of the customer that’s why the products of SM Industry has a new value in the market.
The location of the industry is in a villege based area so all the main borrowers depend on cultivation so they are much dependent on those aluminium utensils. So we have a great market in the area spreads up to 50km2.There present around 3lakh people. In this region only one utensil manufacturing industry is present except ours. We have incorporated a new design that is by hammering all the kalasis or handas, this single design is attracting customers increasingly.
2.3.6 PRODUCTION TARGET:
As in this area only one utensil manufacturing industry is present other than ours so we only have to fulfil a great %ge of market demand. The market demand is about 110MT including exporting to various nearby areas its around 150km2 from the production unit.
2.3.7 SUPPLY POSITION:
The products are sold in small quantity so the customers after purchasing the products arrange their own transportation by small carriers ie trollys or buses. We live in a country where more than 70%population depend on agriculture, generally these utensils are consumed by them, so during the period of cultivation which is from june- november the market is slow. Transportation to other areas outside the district is done by means of buses according to their requirement.
