Parking Management for Madurai
Abstract
Madurai is one of the second largest city in Tamilnadu, also one of the most prominent pilgrim centre of India, Due to
the symbiosis of religion, culture, heritage, trade & commerce. This city is famous for Meenakshi Amman temple which is one of
the most traditional temples among south India. The places located nearby the temple are developed as trade centers & for tourism.
According to the development in this city, it meet’s the largest problem in traffic and transportation which is caused by improper
parking policy. Due to the growth of vehicle usage by the devotees from various locations coming to the Meenakshi Amman
temple, loading & unloading of goods for trade and commerce and also the customer to this location has the mentality of irregular
parking. The major drawback in the study area is lots of parking problem & lack of parking facilities. This topic deals with the
study of parking problems in core area (4 veli streets) of the city, the demand, adoption of new parking facilities as per IRC
standards for minimizing on-street irregular parking and the possible strategy which can be adopted from various case studies in
the global context.
