A commonly used circuit for supplying large amounts of DC powers is the bridge rectifier. In this rectifier configuration, four diodes have been used.
Two diodes will conduct during the positive alteration and two during the negative alteration.
The DC voltage, which appears at the output of the bridge circuit, will be somewhat less than 90% of the applied RMS value.
ADVANTAGES OF BRIDGE RECTIFIER CIRCUIT
o No center tap required on transformer.
o Much smaller transformers required.
o Suitable for high voltage applications.
o Less PIV rating per diode.
The disadvantage of this circuit is the need for four diodes. However this is preferred to the full wave rectifier due to its other advantages
