In vitro effect of different pH levels on the mycelial biomass of different Ganoderma lucidum strains
ABSTRACT
Three Ganoderma lucidum strains were tested for mycelial biomass production at different pH levels viz. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 using malt extract broth (MEB) as test media. The study indicated that pH of media had a significant effect on the mycelial biomass production of test G. lucidum strains. pH-6 was observed to be best pH level for obtaining maximum mycelial biomass (454.33 mg) of mushroom fungus, irrespective of strains. The next best pH level was 5 which recorded mycelial biomass of 322.33 mg. With decrease in pH level from 6 to 3 and increase from 6 to 9, there was a significant decrease in mycelial biomass production of the test fungus. The study also indicated that there is non-significant difference among strains with regard to preference for any particular pH level for production of higher mycelial biomass.
