DEFINITION
The low-cost carrier to be an airline that operates a point-to point network, pays employees below the industry average wage, and offers no frills service.
The two most prominent low-cost carriers, JetBlue and Southwest, both have labor costs 30% to 40% lower than the mainline carriers.
HISTORY
India's first low-cost airline, Air Deccan started service on August 25, 2003.
Air Deccan now faces stiff competition from other low-cost Indian carriers such as SpiceJet, GoAir and Paramount Airways. IndiGo Airlines recently placed an order for 100 Airbus A320s
The success of Air Deccan has spurred the entry of more than a dozen low-cost airlines in India.

Deccan Aviation was started in 1997 with one helicopter, it now has a fleet of 10 helicopters and 2 fixed wing aircraft deployed across eight bases at Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, Hyderabad, Surat, Katra and Colombo
Aviation Services
The aim of the Aviation division is to assist in maintaining the critical aviation infrastructure in support of economic development.
In 2001, AKFED has taken a majority stake in Air Burkina (Ouagadougou) and in 2005 in Compagnie Aérienne du Mali (Bamako).
AKFED is in the process to re-fleet these companies and is constantly improving the network of both airlines in the domestic, regional and intercontinental (Paris) field.
