Sales Forecast
As per the nature of the Product, the Manufacturing system begins with Sales Forecast or a order book which can be tailor made for a particular situation.
Prioritizing
Input from Sales Forecast and order book helps in prioritizing the tasks as it gives an aggregate picture of amount of work involved, which can be evenly distributed across the time period such as weeks or months.
Rolling plan
The output from prioritizing Is called a Rolling Plan for production. The word rolling here implies that it is reviewed every month. Every month new plan is added and only the backlog of the previous month is carried forward to the next month.
3 Month Rolling Plan
In a 3 month Rolling plan the information for the immediate month is reliable and based on facts while the plan of other 2 months is on a assumption basis.
Capacity
The Production plan also depends upon capacity which comprises of manpower and equipments. Equipments are susceptible for breakdowns. Hence maintenance dept. works out a maintenance plan which is based on convenience of the production dept. Manpower resporces can be affected by festival season or vacations which is loaction specific.
Gross material requirement
The Gross Material requirement is then compared against material already in stock and Orders for the same item or component placed with the suppliers. Thus Net quantity of required item can be calculated as Under :-
Net Quantity = Gross Quantity – Stock qty – On order Qty.
