Health care infrastructure and services are being provided in the
National Capital Territory of Delhi by a number of agencies i.e. Govt.
of National Capital Territory of Delhi, local bodies i.e. MCD, NDMC
& Delhi Cantonment Board, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
through its network of hospitals and other specialized institutions,
Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Labour and
various Central Govt. Undertakings. In addition to Govt. and Public
Sector Agencies, Private Sector is also contributing in provision of
Health Care Services in Delhi.
Within the private sector, Delhi has good presence of Non-Profit
Organizations and Charitable Institutions in providing free health
services or services at subsidized rates to the poor. Along with these
Non-profit Organizations and NGOs, Private Sector Super Speciality
Hospitals are also functioning and getting patients referred from the
hospitals from different parts of the country and also from other
countries.
At present, there are 34 Allopathic, 02 Ayurvedic&Unaniand 02
Homeopathic hospitals managed by Govt. of Delhi providing
Secondary and Tertiary health care services. There are 509
Dispensaries of Allopathic,Ayurvedic&Unani and Homeopathic
system managed by Delhi Government for providing primary health
care services.
Out of total no. of 883 Medical Institutions in Delhi, 752 are in
private Sector and 131institutions are in Govt./Public Sector. Total
no. of hospital beds in these institutions are 42698 which includes
24484 beds in Govt./Public Sector Institutions and 18214 beds in
Private Sector Institutions. With these hospital beds the bedpopulation
ratio is 2.55beds per thousand population in 2011.
