Web OS
What is Web OS?
• A software platform that interacts with the user through a web browser and does not depend on any particular local operating system.
• A Virtual Computer running inside browser.
• A computing research project Started at the University of California, Berkeley in 1996. Continued at Duke University, University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Washington.
• Some people call it WebTop or Web Desktop.
Why use Web OS?
● Portable (Actually you don't have to bring anything).
● May not have to buy expensive OS any more.
● Cross-platform.
● Just need browser.

• It’s portable: Single point of access through which we can utilize tools and services, store your files and return to and from any computer on the planet.

• We just need a browser and internet connection.
• Open Source: The possibility for users and developers to contribute to the enrichment of the Web OS by creating new applications and widgets.
• Integrated Application: the availability of a media player within the Web OS.
• Mini-Browser: the integration of a web browser.
• File storage: the amount of space – if available – to store files online.
• File sharing support: the support for file sharing with other users.
• Desktop Search: the presence of a desktop search engine within the Web OS.
