Abstracts: Defects occur in forged product is a major problem which directly affects the production rate and it decreases the efficiency of production process. Defects is caused due to following reasons in industry such as forging lap, Incomplete die filling, Die misalignment, surface and internal cracks, buckling, etc. The result indicates that the rejection rate in the company was more than five percent of the total productions made each month. In manufacturing industries, the choice of suitable forging process parameters and the design of tools and dies are still largely based on trial and error method. In warm and hot forging, the dies are subjected to high contact pressures and temperatures. The selection of the die material, hardness and coating is critical for increasing die life in precision forging. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) based methods have also been used to estimate abrasive wear and plastic deformation on forging dies. The remedial actions includes the proper use of anti-scale coating, venting process to prevent the under filling, the simulation software for determining the material flow, proper lubricant instead of furnace oil etc.Abstracts: Defects occur in forged product is a major problem which directly affects the production rate and it decreases the efficiency of production process.
