INTRODUCTION
Always man after they knew that they had some innate abilities in their execution of tasks has been pushing away the boundaries to stand safe in nature though the challenge may be hard and very difficult at times. Engineering has been the key tool in doing so and one aspect of it is the marvelous path of civil engineering.
Mega structures which have proven the innate ability of mankind have already taken birth in the foreign countries and it’s our country that has been in no practice of it. It’s not until the need becomes the necessity that we venture into such environment to push the limits of nature to make our survival.
The concept of the high raise buildings have been a part of this venture, a concept though seen a little acceptable in the past (or even at present) has unnoticeably come to be the necessity at some places in our country. So this project will be an introduction to such a kind of structures in the country.
AIM
Design and analysis of 13 story residential building in phuentsholing city using staad.pro software with more emphasis on earthquake resistance.
REASONS FOR THE SELECTION OF THE TOPIC
i) Phuentsholing being the business hub of the country, land in phuentsholing city has been shrinking day by day with the increasing population and rural urban migration so; there is an acute pressure on housing.
ii) For example: more than 270 families living in jaigaon (July 8th 2012, Kuensel).
iii) These is no space for horizontal expansion in the city therefore it’s high time that we venture into the vertical expansion or high raise buildings but with proper safety measures against natural hazard like earthquake else in due course of time the government is going to face a great problem of housing which already is.
iv) This would decrease pressure on land resource and promote sustainability of resources like land and forest.
v) If Bhutan says that we are in zone five of earthquakes than let’s compare Samdrup Jongkhar and Guwahati, there are buildings which are more than 20 story in Guwahati though it also lies in the same earthquake zone. So what I think is it’s the matter of utilizing the technology which ensures safety.
