During their life cycle, digital resources, in particular the digital representation of artistic work, can often go through custody changes, format migrations and other changes in their representation. This may pose a threat to the integrity of their intellectual content and makes it difficult to trace their origin. The paper addresses the crucial problem of collecting and preserving the evidence that would, at a later time, adequately assess the authenticity, provenance and integrity of these resources. The solution we propose is based on the definition of special XML structures to preserve evidence of authenticity, which are compatible with the PREMIS data dictionary, a widely recognized standard in the digital preservation community and therefore guarantees a solid foundation for interoperability between different repositories.
