In 2010, South Africa, as a developing economy, received the FIFA World Cup Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). A strong development program aimed at ensuring that the event had a positive impact on the lives of the majority of the population who had previously been harmed by apartheid policies and practices (Cornellisen, 2007 Rogerson, 2009). The contribution of this mega event to the process of transformation in the country and, in particular, the development of small tourist enterprises was highlighted (Rogerson, 2008). Under tourism, mega-events are widely regarded as large-scale issues, marked by global publicity, a substantial international visit and major economic, social and environmental impacts (Jago et al., 2010).
