The subject of pavement distress and failure is considered complex as several factors contribute to the pavement deterioration and failure. the aging and oxidation of bituminous films lead to the deterioration of bituminous pavements. detrimental action in pavements are rapidly increased when excess water is retained in the void spaces of bituminous pavements or in the cracks and joint of the cement concrete pavements. in this study project ârural road âfatepar-hadmatiya stretch pavement failures are occurred due to various reasons. the study stretch is flexible type of pavement. in the study the causes of settlement and different distresses will be identified and recommended solution recommended. in the study stretch various causes of pavement settlement has been observed. the various test has been carried out on site and in the laboratory. the test results of in situ soil shows that the soil poor load bearing capacity and moderately susceptible to water ingress. the geometric features of the study stretch shows that there is insufficient lateral and longitudinal slope in the pavement so it is highly water susceptible which leads to pavement failure. there is also insufficient width of shoulder which also decreases the pavement stability. on study stretch to know the remaining strength of base and sub base course the dynamic cone penetrometer test has been carried out which shows poor strength of base and sub base course in terms of cbr value.
