A Brief Background of Industrial Training

INTRODUCTION
Industrial training is an independent course unit undertaken by third year students of Telecommunication Engineering. The trainee carried out his training at Eight Tech Consults Limited.
Eight Tech Consults Limited is Uganda's fastest growing IT solutions provider. The company operates business development offices in the Uganda [Kampala, Mbale and Fort Portal], Liaison Offices on the Netherlands, UK and Kenya. The trainee, trained from one of the branches of Eight Tech Consults located along Nabunya road just after St. Lawrence University.
The Company’s business Manager is Mrs. Martha Nakitto and all the Training Programs are headed by Mr. Joseph Kaizi. Presently, the company is led by 10 professionals with diverse skills and experience.
Eight Tech Consults Limited deals in a number of products for example Web Content Management System and Real Estate Management System to mention but a few. The company provides services like; Networking services, Training Programs and E-Business services. \
The Mission of Eight Tech Consults Limited is: "To contribute towards social and economic development: through the development and deployment of innovative technologies."
The company’s end-to-end solutions enable small and medium sized enterprises (SME's) to build, promote, manage and profit from their presence.
Objectives of Industrial Training
The Administration of Makerere University had some reasons as to why they officiated Industrial Training for all students of Telecommunications Engineering; the following are some of the objectives of Industrial Training.
To Makerere University
• To give students an opportunity to put the knowledge learnt in class into practice.
• To develop the skill of punctuality and responsibility at the work places.
• To promote good relation between the University and the various companies.
• To prepare the student for life after campus.
• To help students develop good working skills and also get contacts of those already in the sector.
• To give the students the opportunity to learn from already practicing engineers and technicians in the field.
To Eight Tech Consults Limited
• To provide an opportunity for the industry to freely train people from whom they can recruit as employees.
• To enable the already working Engineers improve on their understanding of the concepts as they explain to the trainees. To increase the amount of manpower. To make the company known to the public.
To the Trainee
• To put in practice the theoretical knowledge obtained in class.
• To acquire knowledge and skills on repairing and maintenance of computers and their accessories.
• To meet professionals already in the field and get to work with them. To get exposed to the challenges in the field.
