Abstracts: Construction industries are in a quandary today. Production cost are going up progressively due to ever-increasing labour costs and rising costs of material and overheads. To remain competitive however, economics have to be effected. A manager has four resources at his command-men, machine, money and material. A manager is expected to give the required output by putting in as low as possible so that his organization remain profitable. For this he cannot do much more from men, machine and money. The only field in which considerable economies are still possible and which has remain virgin in India is material management. Over the last two decades material management, the world over has gained recognition as a science to be studied extensively and applied systematically to ensure efficiency and viability of any industry. This report discusses the various material management methods/techniques for effective material management for minimization of project cost and better material management through case studies of construction project.
