o Smoking and consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited. Any student found in possession of or found consuming alcohol on campus will be summarily be disqualified from all the events he/she is participating in and will be asked to vacate the campus immediately.

Accommodation will be provided only for the participants from far off places.
Transportation will be provided at specific timings from the boarding place to the campus.

How to REACH R.V.C.E:-
The college is located on the 8th mile from the city on Mysore road . Kengeri bound BMTC buses ply from either K.R.Market or from Majestic and even Volvos are available from Banshankari.
INFORMAL EVENTS
Sand modelling
Event duration: one half to two hours
Theme- Ray of Hope
Basic equipment will be provided

Maximum of 4 members in a team (a team can contain anywhere between 1 to 4 members)
Points will be deducted if time limit is exceeded
Photography
Individual event.
Registration compulsory for participation.
No restriction on the type of camera (mobile cameras can be used).
Theme will be announced on spot.
Pictures should be taken inside the campus.
2 best images to be submitted by the end of the event.
Judging will be based on creativity and relevance to the topic.
Collage Making
A platform to explore your imagination, open your minds and showcase your creativity to bring together your thoughts on the given topic.
Each team can have maximum of 3 members.
Registration fee is 30/team.
All participants should bring their own newspaper, magazines and glue.
Use of scissors and scale are strictly prohibited.
Chart paper will be provided.
Topic will be given on the spot.
Time allotted is 1hr.
Judgment will be based on creativity, neatness and maximum use of space.
Short Movie-Making
One of the events of the 8th Mile-2012 to realize the potential artists in students in the field of movie making so as to appreciate their talent and encourage their growth in the respective field.

The topics for the movie-making will be disclosed to the participating teams 5 days before the event through the 8th mile official website and also through SMS, and the movie submitted must be in relevance with any one of the topics given.
Note: The above rules given are not in any particular order

KANNADA EVENTS
SUTTIGONDU NIMISHA, NIMISHAKKONDU SUTTU
Two members per team.
Written preliminary round will be conducted.
Preliminary round will be followed by the main round.
6 teams (possibly) will be selected for the main round.
There will be 5 sub rounds (possibly) in the main round.
Rules and details of each round will be disclosed in the beginning of respective round.
RASAPRASHNE
Two members per team.
Written preliminary round will be conducted.
Preliminary round will be followed by the main round.
6 teams (possibly) will be selected for the main round.
There will be 6 sub rounds (possibly) in the main round.

EKAPATRABHINAYA
It is an individual event.
Preliminary round will be conducted (Possibly).

Participants will be given a theme on spot and they have to act accordingly with emotions and speech.
Time will be 5min (2min prep + 3 min presentation)

PADABANDHA
It is an individual event.
Participants will be given a puzzle(Padabandha) on spot and they have to solve it in given time.
Normal Padabandha rules apply.
Cultural Events
Eastern Music
Band Members - 5 to 10.
Time Duration - 20 minutes (including stage setup).
Songs can be in any Indian language (at least one song should be in hindi).
At least one group (i.e. minimum 3 vocalists) should be presented.
Back-up vocals are allowed.
Use of recorded sounds will lead to Disqualification (sequences or loops in keyboard/guitar are allowed).
Inappropriate behaviour, vulgarity (either in lyrics or action) is not entertained.
A standard right-hand drum-kit will be provided. Other instruments are to be got by the band members.
Cross college bands can register too.
PS: We’re going to be pretty strict about the 20 minute rule
Street Play
Time duration – 12+3 minutes.
Members – 8 to12.
Theme-“Ray of Hope”.
Judging criteria based on portrayal of theme and use of time and space available.
No props allowed.
English/Hindi/Kannada languages only (punch lines in other languages can be used).
Vulgarity, profanity or character assassination is not allowed.
Mad ADS
There will be two rounds---Prelims and Finals.
Time duration -6 minutes (for both prelims and finals).
Members – 5 to 6.
First round: Any product of their choice.
Second round (shortlisted only): Participants will have to advertise the products we give them.
Vulgarity, profanity or character assassination is not allowed.
Western Electric
Bands can do whatever the hell they want! Except:
They’ve got to get out of stage in 20 minutes.
No Swearing!
It's not a solo or a duet event! Minimum of 3 members.
Don't over-crowd! Select your best 8 members and put 'em on!
Cross college bands can register too.
That’s pretty much it.
Standard 5 piece drum kit will be provided; additional cymbals must be brought by the bands.
All other instruments must be brought by participants.

Solo Dance
Time Duration – 4+1 Minutes.

Costumes will be given priority. No vulgarity will be entertained.
All other Standard dance judgement criteria apply.

Group Dance
Time Duration – 7+1 Minutes.
Members – 5 to 12
Any dance form.
The Theme should be “Ray of Hope”.
Judgement Criteria mainly based on the Portrayal of theme. (All other standard dance judgement criteria also apply).
Songs to be brought in a CD or pendrive
Costumes will be given priority. No vulgarity will be entertained.

Street Dance
Members – 6 to 15
Time Duration: 7 minutes Any Street style dance form.
Hindi Antakshari
Members – 3 per team.
Prelims –
Bollywood Quiz paper (A maximum of 10 teams will be shortlisted for the Finals event).
Finals-
First Round - Normal Antakshari round and another round in which each team has to sing songs in one minute given to them using the word given to them, More the no of songs, more the scores.
Second round -(Only for the top 5 teams after round 1) Identifying the song from the tune played, and a combination round(singer+ actor will be given, sing a song using the combination).
Third Round – Video Clips round.
Top 2 teams after the end of all the 3 rounds are the prize winners.
Karaoke
Solo Event
There will be two rounds---Pre-event and Finals.
Short-listed participants from the pre-events will be selected for Final round in RVCE Campus.
Time limit: Prelims -4 minutes.
Time Limit: Finals - 5 minutes.
Song can be in English or any Indian language.
Lyrics will be displayed on screen on availability.
Karaoke track, preferably needs to be brought by the participant, or the song must be informed to the co-ordinators beforehand.
(Request for track, if any, should be made in advance before 8th March. You can request for track to rvcecat[at]gmail.com and we will inform you regarding the availability of the track)
Same or different song (as that in pre-event) can be performed for Final round.
Inappropriate behaviour, vulgarity (either in lyrics or action) is not entertained.
Short-listed participants for the Final round will be informed.

2 Set match for 21 points with court change after one set( or it can be after every 7 points).
In case of a tie a third set for 15 points is played.
Rotation of players is not required and no substitutions are allowed.
With the ball in his court a team has 3 chances to clear it with alternating the touch with any other player.
COUNTER STRIKE
teams will consist of 5 players each.

MINI SOCCER

Incase of tied penalty a toss decides the winner.

6 overs per innings
1 over powerplay chosen by the batting side during which only 2 fielder’s are allowed

SINGLES AND DOUBLES TENNIS TOURNAMENT RULES
Eligibility: All players MUST have a valid Student I.D. card at ALL matches.
Play Format
The first person/team to win 3 games will be deemed the winner.
Examples: 3-0 OR 3-2 OR 3-1.
No-ad scoring will be used. (When a game becomes tied at deuce, next point wins the game. No advantage scoring.
The winner of the match needs to report the win to the Supervisors after the match.
Use a fair method of choice (e.g. spin racket, flip coin, etc…) to decide who serves first or choice of a side
of the court. The loser of the toss has the remaining option.
Score game 15-30-40-GAME (See rule 3 under PLAY FORMAT)
Switch sides after every odd numbered game total in the set.
Start serves on the right side and then alternate sides.
One player serves throughout an entire game.
Decision of the umpire is final.
SNOOKER
Only singles games.

Informal Events
LOL(entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega)
It is a stage performance event. Solo as well as Group performance are invited Any related Entertainment shows like STANDUP COMEDY or IMITATIONS,MIME,BEAT BOXING are invited. The participants will be judged on their ability to entertain the audience.
No of Participants-There is no limit to the number of participants.
Each performer will be given 5-8 minutes stage time.
Performance must be in English (though short passages in other languages will be allowed).
No props will be provided. Participants are supposed to bring their own props if required.
Obscenity (at the discretion of the judges) of any kind will not be allowed and will lead to immediate disqualification.
Time limit should be followed , contestants exceeding their time limit will be penalized by the judges.
The decisions of the judges will be final and binding.
CLINCH THE DEAL
It is a team event with a maximum of 4 participants and a minimum of 3 participants.
Comprises of two rounds.
Participants are expected to sell the given products to the maximum price possible.
Time limit is 20 minutes + 5 minutes. An extra 20 minutes will be given for the team to discuss a strategy and also come up with slogans / ideas to attract the crowd.
The criteria to judge the competition are the total amount the team makes from selling the products, creativity and the ability to seek attention from the passing crowd.
LEGGED RACE
No of participants per team: 3
The event comprises of 3 rounds
Round 1
The 3 players are bound together at their ankles to form 4 legs
Each team is timed as they race from the start point to the finish line. Timer Is stopped when the entire team crosses the finish line .
50% of the teams with the least timing qualify for the 2nd round.
Round 2
The ankles of two players will be tied to each other to form 3 legs.
The 2 players are blindfolded and are given a ball.
The 3rd player without blindfold is to guide the blindfolded players by means of color codes for each direction (left, right, front, back are assigned different colors)
Based on the directions given the blindfolded players are to place the ball in a basket placed at some random place within boundary.
Every time the player guides using actual words for direction or any other ways it will be considered as a fault. The number of faults per team will be noted.
Each team is timed from the start till the ball is in the basket. The teams have to finish the task without any faults and in minimum time.
50% of the teams with the least timing qualify for the 3rd round.
Round 3
The ankles of two players will be tied with their backs touching to each other to form 3 legs.
Each bound player is to balance a lemon using a spoon in their mouth.
The path from the star point to the finish line comprises of a zig zag path .The path is divided into 2 checkpoints.
The two players are to navigate through the path without dropping the lemon. In case the lemon falls, the player who sits out has to eat a chilli .The two bound players will have to continue from the previously crossed checkpoint.
Each team is timed for this task till the bound players reach the finish line.
HOGATHON
It consists of 3 rounds which are as follows:
Round1:
In this round participants have to eat maximum number of pani-puris in 1minute.
Round 2:
In this the participants have to finish the given number of samosas as fast as possible.
Round 3:
This will have a combination of burger, banana and aerated drinks.
Note: Bits of food in mouth will lead to disqualification.
Decision of the organizers is final.
SACK RACE
Sacks will be provided to each participant.
There will be straight 50 meter lane for first round
Second round will be along a deformed path
Third round will have only 2 finalists and will be along 8-shaped path.
Participants timing is noted and winner is declared.
The organisers decision is final and will not be argued.
8th MILE Roadies
i. Individual participation.
There will be three rounds:
Round 1: Written round of half an hour. The participants have to answer a few questions about themselves.
Round 2: The selected participants will have to entertain the crowd for two minutes each. The mode of entertainment will be decided by the judges (props will be given).
Round 3: Selected participants will be interviewed by a panel of judges. The duration of this round depends on the number of participants selected.
ii. The winner will solely be decided by the panel of judges.
DUMB CHARADES AND PICTIONARY
Each team can have a maximum of 3 members and a minimum of 2 members.
There are 3 rounds with time limit as follows -
o 1st round - 2 minutes
o 2nd and 3rd round - 3 minutes
Teams will be shortlisted as per their scores in the 1st round.
The 2nd round will be a Pictionary round, where the one of the team members will draw on a board and the rest of them will have to guess the same.
Other rules will be specified on the spot
TECHNICAL EVENTS
ON SPOT PROGRAMMING
Number of participants per team can be up to 2.
Written prelims will have questions in C language.
Final round will test the coding skills with programs to be run on C++/JAVA compiler.
Criteria for judgment will be speed, efficiency of code, data structures used and validity for special conditions.
PAPER PRESENTATION
Paper presentation will be of 4 categories.
Category1:- Green construction.
Category2:-Green computing.
Category3:-sustainable energy resourse.
Category4:- computer network security.
Number of participants per team can be up to 2(separate category for both UG and PG).
Abstract of the paper will have to be mailed to email id 8thmile[at]rvce.edu.in latest by 8th march.
The short-listed list of finalists will be put on the fest website by 8thmile.rvce.edu.in.
Time limit is 15 minutes (10-presentation+2-questions). Alarm bell will be given after 10 minutes.
Only MS Office 2007 on a computer and a LCD projector will be provided.
Participants are required to carry one hardcopy and a softcopy of the paper in both CD and a flash drive.
CIRCUIT DEBUGGING
Each team can have a maximum of 3 members.
A written elimination round will be conducted prior to the final practical round.
Teams will be shortlisted for the finals as per their scores in the written test.
The elimination round will contain objective MCQ's which test the basic knowledge and skills of the teams in electronic circuit design.
In the final round, teams have to practically design circuits with components as per the given problem statements.
The final round is conducted for 3 hours.
The problem statements will be revealed on the spot.
The required instruments will be provided to test the working of the circuits built.
HACK A THON
HACKATHON Def (From wikipedia) : A hackathon, is an event when programmers meet to do collaborative computer programming. The spirit of a hackathon is to collaboratively build programs and applications.
The Event will be conducted in two phase ,
It will includes (n) number of challenges and will start (n) numbers of days mile actually starts. This Phase will have the online challenges Which will be available to the contestants once he/she is registered with us. 8th the before → Each Contestant will be provide with a unique username and password on registration → After that , he/she will open up our online event portal and a challenge will be available each day.(Starting from a specified date) made → Points will be awarded to a participant for completing each challenge. → A hint will be available for each challenge but , it will decrease the points awarded by 10%. → How points are awarded TIME(in min) : POINTS
PHASE II :
This phase of event will be held on the college campus.The selected participant from phase -I will be called to college on the day of fest and be given to them on site.This phase will be more about the programming. the challenge will → The challenge will be given on site → Before they start on the challenge , they will be given a tut of 2 hours about the technology and the techniques they have to implement. → The participants should have a basic idea web servers and web programming , and even if they dont have that , the tut before the challenge will give them how to work on the problem. a basic idea about → The should be able to complete the
challenge within 3 hours. → The final result will be audited by the team of testers and the winner will be announced after that
Event parameters : challenges are decided (n) → Number of challenges on phase – I , will be finalized after all the (x) → Number of participants selected from phase – I , will be decided by the 8th mile management.
ROBOTICS
The Torch Bearer
Bot Specifications:
• The dimensions of the base of the robot should be 30cm x 30cm. There is no restriction on the height. • The potential difference between any 2 points in the circuit should not exceed 12V. • Teams should not use ready-made kits like Lego, but the use of geared motors is allowed.
• The bot remote controls may be wired/ wireless. If your remote is wireless, make sure you carry remotes of 2 or 3 different frequencies in order to avoid frequency clashes.
• The power supply should be onboard. • Teams are not allowed to replace parts, batteries or solder wires during the match; however they can do it in between matches.
Event format:
The bots are expected to traverse the entire arena and light the torch (Bulb) at the end of the arena, a switch is provided to light the lamp.
The arena will consist of various terrains, each terrain is considered as a checkpoint.
If the bot successfully traverses a particular terrain, then a checkpoint is cleared.
The bot which traverses all the terrains, and lights the lamp is considered as the winner, if not, the bot with most checkpoints covered in least time will be considered as the winner.
The arena may consist of the following terrains
1. Sand
2. Gravel
3. Saw Dust
4. Grease
5. Mud
6. Humps and irregularities
7. Curved roads
8. See-saw bridge
9. Mesh tacks
Towards the end of the arena, you can expect a circular region with cylindrical and cubical obstacles. The dimensions of the obstacles are
Cylinder : Radius: < 5cm, height< 8cms (CPVC Pipes)
Cube: < 6X6X6 (Ruby Cubes or card board boxes)
The bot should push away all the obstacles from the circular region, the bot can drag or push the obstacles, no additional mechanisms are necessary. Once the bot clears all the obstacles from the circular region, it can proceed further. Refer Fig 2.
After completing the arena, the bot has to traverse the ramp with elevation < 20 degrees.
After traversing the ramp, the bot has to press the switch, which will be at a height of 10 cms from the elevated platform. Refer Fig 3, Fig 4
Once the lamp is lightened, time will be stopped and the bot with least time to complete the task will be crowned as the “Torch bearer”
Arena Specs:
The length of the arena will be disclosed only on the event day
Width of the track will be 50cms
Elevation of the ramp <20degrees
Height of switch from the elevated platform is 10 cms
The switch (push button) is made of cardboard and the bulb lights up once the button is pushed. Dimensions of the button are 6X6 cms
