Introduction
TELCO Construction Equipment Co. The construction industry involves heavy use of excavators, wheel loaders, and backhoe loaders. Telcon's range of Back Hoe Loaders start at 5 ton and a maximum size of 7 ton excavator are made in the country. And sizes bigger than this including the giant 12 ton Wheel Loaders have been brought in from Telcon's Principals, Hitachi Construction Machinery Limited, Japan.
Recently, Telcon has acquired a controlling stake of 79% in Serviplem S.A., Spain specializing in the manufacture of Truck mounted concrete mixers and Dry bulk tanks for the transport of concrete and cement respectively. Serviplem has a presence in over 50 countries across the globe and is ranked amongst the TOP 6 manufacturers in the world. Telcon has also acquired a controlling stake of 60% in COMOPLESA LEBRERO S.A, Spain, and their technology partners since 2002, who manufacture a range of road construction machines. These two acquisitions have further strengthened our ambition of being a Full Liner.
Telcon is the largest manufacturer of construction equipment and has three manufacturing plants - at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Dharwad in Karnataka & new Khargapur plant in West Bengal. The Kharagpur plant will produce backhoe loaders, midi excavators, off - highway dump trucks, wheel loaders and large mining shovels. This will take Telcon towards being a full liner in the construction equipment business. It will also house a full - fledged R&D centre. Hitachi, while actively participating in creating the R&D facilities, will aim at making the new centre a global R&D hub.

Telcon’s main focus is also on Value added Service offerings such as Full Maintenance Contracts, which complete our package to our customers and enable him free up precious resources for customer’s core activities. Manufacturing Facilities - Dharwad
It is the younger of the two facilities having been set-up in 1999 this modern and highly mechanized facility spread over 118 acres rolls out more than a thousand machines with less than 50 workers. It is here that the 'Contractor's machines' which is machines of under-20T class and wheeled equipment are made. Dharwad lies in the centre of the hubs of the markets for these machines, concentrated in the South and West. To be precise it is 420km from Bangalore, 400km from Pune and 470km from Hyderabad.
It has a fully automated conveyor system, which is designed to cater to high volumes and is undaunted by the flexibility and fluctuations in the model mix. This gives it the capability to respond nimbly to customer needs. Systematic workflow and a quality conscious team ensure that high quality products roll out.
Starting operations in 1961 with the manufacture of friction machines in collaboration with P&H, USA, today Telcon is a market leader in India. The product range includes hydraulic excavators, crawler cranes, wheel loaders, backhoe loaders, off-highway dumpers, motor graders, skid steer loaders, cane loaders and truck loader cranes.

Telcon, which is a 40:60 joint venture between Tata Engineering and Hitachi Construction Machinery Ltd. Japan, has recently started manufacturing the Euclid-Hitachi 35-tonne capacity dump-trucks at its works here. Telcon is already making the capacity to become Euclid-Hitachi’s global manufacturing base for the 35-tonne capacity dump-truck which is also known as the EH-600 model.
Depending on the demand situation of this model, Telcon may take up the manufacture of the 60-tonne capacity dump-trucks too. The decision to shift the manufacturing of the EH-600 model from a partnership until in Poland to Telcon here was taken by the Canada-headquartered Euclid-Hitachi as a result of disruption of its partnership with the Polish firm which was earlier manufacturing the vehicles.

TELCON introduces the Hitachi’s ZAXIS 50U, a 5 tone Mini Excavator which is India’s first zero tail swing Excavator. With the successful launch of ZAXIS 50U at Bangalore in June’07, a series of Regional launches were conducted in Port Blair, Mangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi. The performance of the machine has been excellent and the response received from the customers has been encouraging.
ZAXIS 50U is the latest series of technologically advanced mini excavators from Hitachi and is very popular Worldwide. ZAXIS 50U has advanced features like Zero Tail Swing Radius, Boom Swing and is suitable for a Variety of Applications and precision jobs.
It has the unique capability to work in very tight corners because of its zero tail swing. This machine is eminently suitable for work in urban areas where space is at a premium. The machine is compact, versatile, easy to transport and highly fuel-efficient.
Some of the applications where the machines are successfully working are- Foundation work, Trenching work (has lower fuel consumption than a Backhoe loader), Tunnel work ( a compact machine), channel/ditch cleaning (after mounting on pontoon), steel and cement plants and road side repair (with rubber tracks).
