SELF - COMPACTING CONCRETE WITH PARTIAL REPLACEMENT OF SAND BY QUARRY DUST
ABSTRACT
Characteristics of scc
Self-compacting Concrete (SCC) gets compacted without external efforts like vibration, compaction, floating etc.
Properties of mix
The mix therefore is required to have the ability of passing, filling voids and being stable.
Applications of scc
SCC is ideally suited for concreting structures, which have heavily congested reinforcement or difficult access condition.
Such a concrete is obtained by limiting the water cement ratio, incorporating an effective super plasticizer, a high quantity of fines increasing the sand aggregate ratio, if needed, a Viscosity Modifying Admixture (VMA)[1].
The mix proportion is obtained as per the guidelines given by European Federation of producers and contractors of specialist products for structures (EFNARC)[2].
Scope of project
Mix of scc
In this investigation the sand is partially replaced by quarry dust by 30, 60, and 90 percentages. For the various proportions of super plasticizer(SP) i.e. water reducing admixture (WRA) ranging from 0.5% to 6.5% with Glenium B233 and from 0.05% to 0.35% with Glenium Stream-2 which is used as VMA, the mixes have been prepared.
Tests on fresh concrete
Fresh concrete properties are checked by conducting the workability tests such as slump flow, L box, V funnel and U box tests .
Tests on hardened concrete
The 28 days compressive, split tensile and flexural strength have also been studied for SCC with and without quarry dust.
