Abstracts: Ground-granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS or GGBFS) materials are used in different configuration and techniques for strengthening of Reinforced concrete (RC) elements to ensure their longer service life. Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is a nonmetallic product consisting essentially of silicates and aluminates of calcium and other bases. The chemical composition of Blast Furnace Slag (BFS) is similar to that of cement clinker. As such fly ash used in concrete at that type GGBFS is used as an admixture in making concrete. Recently for marine outfall work at Bandra, Mumbai GGBFS has been used as an admixture to replace cement. Now a day with the increase in cost of cement hence Construction becomes uneconomical. GGBFS is the waste material of steel industry have nil cost hence study of replacement of cement with GGBS is necessary. Blast furnace slag, although is an industrial by product exhibits good cementitious properties with little further processing. It permits very high replacement of cement and extends many advantages over conventional cement concrete. Use of this product saves cement up to 60 to 80%. A total of 7 times concrete blocks were tested to study the influence of adding Groundgranulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS or GGBFS) on the ductility of the concrete blocks.
